Lancaster's 3rd annual OktoberFest promises to bigger and better than ever! Once again, we'll have a Preview Party on Friday night, October 10th, with live entertainment, a full German meal, and a selection of German beer, custom-made wine, and root beer on tap. Then on Saturday, October 11, we'll offer a full day of activities, including food and beverages available a la carte, live music, performances by a Bavarian dance club, and amusement rides for all ages. Both days, a select group of artists will be on-hand to show and sell their art, and famed potter Randy Brodnax will bring both a pottery wheel and a built-on-site kiln for demonstrations.
In addition to the activities at the Historic MKT Depot and Rose Garden, this year's OktoberFest will include vendors and other activities on the Historic Town Square.

Our very first Oktoberfest was held in October 1998 which was attended by about 400 people. The next year about 1700 people attended the festival, and a band was brought in from Germany.
The festival continued to grow each year and in 2003, a second weekend was added and two bands were brought in from Germany in addition to many performers from the US. By 2005 attendance had grown to 10,000, and the Leavenworth festival was ranked as one of the top Oktoberfest celebrations in the country.

The "Enzian Volkstanzgruppe", the Bavarian dance group of the Delaware Saengerbund, will entertain at intervals during the festival. They perform in the colorful "Tracht" - the traditional costume patterned after the distinctive style of Miesbach in Bavaria. The men wear "Lederhosen" - buck skin leather pants - the women a "Dirndl" - a dress consisting of several parts: skirt, blouse, vest, apron, shawl, completed with a special hat. The Silver Club Casino will play host to the inaugural Oktoberfest harvest festival in downtown Sparks, Nevada. Oktoberfest is a celebration of Bavarian culture with a focus on German food, beer, arts/crafts, and music. The event will feature a 5,000 square foot indoor/outdoor Biergarten with an array of Bratwurst, weinerschnitzel, lederhosen, and plenty of German beer on tap, a Kindergarten area for children of all ages to enjoy a hay maze and pumpkin patch, and a Craftgarten will run up and down Victorian Avenue featuring 80 arts and crafters from the western region of the United States. The Silver Club is actively looking to bring a logging element and Bratwurst (hot dog) eating contest to the event, too.
What would Oktoberfest be without the lively rhythms and traditional melodies of German folk music? When we think of German bands playing, we think of lively singing and people dancing like chickens.
