This year marks the 175th celebration of the Munich Oktoberfest. Known as the world's largest public festival, the Munich Oktoberfest (September 20 - October 5, 2008) will be enjoyed by almost seven million visitors this year alone. During the two week-long event, more than five million liters of beer, 600,000 roasted chickens and over 400,000 sausages will be consumed. Located in beer tents serving the food and beers of sponsoring regional German breweries and restaurants, the festival occurs on the Theresienwiese grounds, known fondly as just die Wiesn.
