Much like in the US and Canada young people and adults in Germany have an astounding variety of snack foods to choose from. Besides the usual suspects of chocolate bars, candy and salty snacks such as potato chips and pretzels, Germans also love to snack on more healthy products including fruits, nuts and a huge selection of dairy products like yogurt, quark snacks, puddings or rice pudding.
Peanut Flips (Erdnussflips)
Erdnussflips (peanut flips) are a particularly popular snack in Germany. Contradictory to its name, Erdnussflips consist, however, mainly of cornmeal. All in all, there is about a quarter of a peanut in every peanut flip.
Pretzel sticks (Stängelchen)
Crisp and salty pretzels and pretzel stick have been popular in Germany for centuries.
The pretzel roll is especially hearty as a sandwich with sausage, ham or cheese. The crispy pretzel sticks go well with baked or grilled dishes or dip into mustard and curry ketchup
Snacks (Knabbergebäck )
Salzstangen (salty pretzel sticks) and Erdnussflips (peanut flips) are particularly popular snacks in Germany.
Trail Mix (Studentenfutter)
Studentenfutter literally means “student feed.” This is a classic snacking mix similar to the North America trail mix, that contains dried fruit, mostly raisins as well as unsalted nuts such as peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews and pine nuts. This popular snack owes its name to the particularly healthy mix of essential nutrients and serves as an excellent source of energy for thinkers and athletes alike.
