The combination of fresh shredded cabbage with Sauerkraut makes for a slaw with great texture and depth of flavors. Apples and walnuts add fruity and warm notes and the warm dressing brings everything together.

Ingredients
1can sauerkraut with winedrained (28-oz)
3cupspackaged shredded cabbage mix for coleslaw*
1/2cupchopped walnuts
1large fresh applepeeled (if desired), cored, and coarsely chopped
1/2small fresh red onioncut into thin wedges
1tbspchopped fresh flat leaf parsley
1/3cupvegetable oil
1tbspwhite wine vinegar
1tbspbrown sugar
1/4tspsea salt
1/4tspcelery seedoptional
Instructions
Drain sauerkraut in colander. Combine sauerkraut, coleslaw mix, walnuts, apple, onion, and parsley in large bowl; toss to mix. Set aside.
Whisk vegetable oil, white wine vinegar, brown sugar, salt, and celery seed, if desired, in medium bowl. Place in small saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir until hot, and sugar is dissolved.
Pour over sauerkraut and cabbage mixture; toss to coat. Serve immediately.
Notes
Three cups of chopped red cabbage may be substituted for the coleslaw mix called for in the recipe.
